MELBOURNE’S NEWEST HIGH TEA EXPERIENCE
All aboard the High Tea Express!
Australia’s favourite steam train, Puffing Billy, has launched a new experience – the High Tea
Express – allowing visitors to enjoy high tea on the tracks in the train’s historic first class dining
carriages.
The iconic tourist attraction will start serving high tea on a monthly basis from July, with the
experience including a three-hour train journey through the Dandenong Ranges, from Belgrave to
Lakeside return.
Partnering with Melbourne high tea extraordinaire and local Montrose business, Mary Eats Cake,
Puffing Billy will deliver a high tea menu with a fresh modern twist, while keeping to the old
fashioned traditions of vintage teaware and classic desserts.
Guests will enjoy delicious savoury items, fluffy scones, sweet treats prepared by a French trained
pastry chef, and tea or coffee. All adult guests will also receive a complimentary glass of Yarra Valley
sparkling wine.
The experience will cater for a range of dietary requirements (upon request when booking)
including vegan and gluten free menus.
Perfect for a ladies day out, the grandeur of the experience begins the moment guests arrive on the
platform of Belgrave Station, where they will meet the characters of the railway who emulate their
roles from years gone by.
Guests will be escorted into the first class dining carriages, where they can absorb the luxurious
heritage features until the whistle sounds and the train departs on its three-hour journey through
the Dandenong Ranges. As the station disappears from sight, a different view emerges – that of the
forests and fern gullies – before crossing one of Puffing Billy’s most famous landmarks, the Monbulk
Creek Trestle Bridge.
