Puffing Billy is located in the Dandenong Ranges, only 40 kilometres or one hour east of Melbourne. Getting to us is easy on public transport, by car or as part of a day tour from Melbourne.

Travel by Public Transport

Catch the Belgrave line from Melbourne CBD to Belgrave Station, approximately a 70-minute journey. Follow the blue line painted on the platform, a short 2-minute walk to Puffing Billy's Belgrave Station.

myki
To travel on public transport in Melbourne, you will need a myki card, which is a durable smartcard that stores value and can be used over and over again.

PLEASE NOTE: Puffing Billy travels through the Dandenong Ranges east of Melbourne (sometimes referred to as 'The Dandenongs'). Please note that Dandenong Railway Station is NOT situated in the Dandenong Ranges.

Day Out With Thomas and the Santa Specials both take place at Gembrook station, not Belgrave where most Puffing Billy trains commence.

Visitors may park at the following locations:

Puffing Billy Car Park:
FREE parking. Entry via Belgrave - Gembrook Road, before the Metro Rail Bridge on the left as you turn off Burwood Highway.

Walking directions: Walk out of the car park, turn left and walk across the Metro rail bridge before turning left into Old Monbulk Road to the Puffing Billy entrance (rotunda). Walk through it and down the zig-zag path to the station.

Parking at the Belgrave CFA Car Park:
FREE parking at 2 Bayview Road, Belgrave VIC 3160.

Please note: Parking in CFA defined bays, as indicated in the signage, is prohibited and can be subject to penalties.

Walking directions: The Puffing Billy entrance (rotunda) can be seen from this car park. Walk through it and down the zig-zag path to the station.

Parking at Belgrave Metro Trains Car Park:
FREE parking. As this car park is used by Metro train commuters, it fills quickly Monday - Friday.

Walking directions: Follow the signposted walkway under the Metro rail bridge to the Puffing Billy station.

Parking at Woolworths Belgrave Car Park:
FREE parking behind the main street shops. Enter via Reynolds Lane. Parking restrictions may apply.

Walking directions: Walk down the main street in Belgrave (Burwood Hwy), turn right at the roundabout and cross the Metro rail bridge. Turn left into Old Monbulk Road to the Puffing Billy entrance (rotunda). Walk through it and down the zig-zag path to the station.

Parking at Mater Christi College, Bayview Road, Belgrave VIC 3160:
FREE parking during the weekends and Victorian school holidays only (dates will be advised). This car park is not available for Puffing Billy patrons on school days.

Walking directions: Walk down Bayview Road and turn right into Old Monbulk Road to the Puffing Billy entrance (rotunda). Walk through it and down the zig-zag path to the station.

Please be mindful of local Council parking restrictions when selecting where to park. Puffing Billy takes no responsibility for any parking fines incurred by our visitors.

Parking around Belgrave is limited, so we encourage our patrons to allow plenty of time to find a spot.

Lakeside Station (Emerald Lake Park)

Construction is now underway on the new Discovery Centre at Emerald Lake Park, with access to parking and pedestrian pathways on the Lakeside Station side of this stop altered.

While all arriving and departing trains, and its passengers, will still have pedestrian access to Lakeside Station and the wig wag crossing connecting you to Emerald Lake Park, carparking will be temporarily limited, and bus parking will be unavailable on this side. Alternative interim bus bays in the Lakeside carpark have been arranged.

Alternate carpark options available to visitors include:

The Lakeside carpark – Located opposite the station and across the lake. Enter from Emerald Park Lake Road and continue alongside the lake to find a cul-de-sac of carpark spots available. From here, walk along any one of the wheelchair and pram-friendly paths to find your way up to Lakeside Station.
Lion’s Den and Bellbird overflow carparks – Located behind Lakeside Station and the Emerald Lake Model Railway. Enter from Emerald Park Lake Road and turn left at the fork on this road, just before the Lakeside carpark.

While accessible for people with limited mobility, anyone alighting at Lakeside Station should consider the hilly inclines of this park and land stability of construction works in progress before embarking on your journey with us.
