9 am - Cherry picking at CherryHill Orchards, Wandin East
Start your family day out CherryHill Orchard in Wandin East. The orchard and shop are open every day through the cherry season, 9 am-5 pm (excluding Christmas Day).
So why not pack a picnic, enjoy the fresh air and sunshine and have fun picking the biggest, sweetest tasting cherries straight from the tree. You'll never taste cherries fresher than that!
11 am - Morning tea at Zest Cafe, Emerald
Zest Café is a place for people who love their great food and quality coffee served with a side of sustainability. Zest is owned by locals who love Emerald and are dedicated to supporting local producers.
12.20 pm - 1 pm: Travel onboard Puffing Billy from Lakeside to Gembrook station
Escape the crowds and enjoy a family outing on this lesser-known part of Puffing Billy. Did you know that Puffing Billy crosses four historic timber bridges between Lakeside and Gembrook? Underway, the Railway skirts the northern boundary of the un-spoilt Wright State Forest, with large stands of Stringy Bark and other eucalypt trees. As the train climbs towards Gembrook, the lineside bush gives way to extensive views of rolling cultivated farmlands, where potatoes are still grown, and distant mountain range.
1 pm - 2.30 pm: Lunch at The Station House Pizzeria
Walking through the heritage town of Gembrook, smell the Italian aroma wafting through the air. The Station House Pizzeria offers a newly refurbished, fully licensed, 30 seat restaurant. Info and table bookings
2.45 pm - 3.20 pm: Travel onboard Puffing Billy from Gembrook to Lakeside station
3.20 pm - 4 pm: Emerald Lake Park
This park offers BBQ facilities and picnic tables, playground facilities, a wading pool and paddle boats for hire, and is the perfect spot for visitors with kids!
