These are the first pictures to be published of the new boiler for NG/G16 129.  Currently under construction at the works of E. R. Curtain in Sydney, these photographs show some of the main parts of the boiler including the main boiler barrel (above) being rolled to shape ready for welding, and below, the firebox outer wrapper plate.

The last photograph shows some of the flanged plates, which have to be specially formed between press tools to obtain the correct shape. Standing up in front you can see the throat plate (upside down!), and lying down is the boiler back plate, with cut out for the firehole. All the flanged plates have been pressed, and a huge number of other components amassed, including all the forged flanges and sockets, belly stays, transverse stays and dome, as assembly continues…..
