Following hot on the heels of the boiler being delivered, the workshops at Belgrave have now taken delivery of the first of the two engine unit frames from Jack Thompson Engineering.
With cylinders attached, horn clips in place, and both inner and outer pony trucks fitted, the whole unit was quickly lifted off the truck in one piece and lowered onto the rails.
Resting on the pony truck wheels, this makes the engine unit the first part of NG/G16 129 to get back on the rails during the restoration! The second engine unit frames will be following closely behind.
There is still some machining on the axleboxes to complete, and wedges and slippers need to be fitted, but with nearly all the suspension components manufactured, springs delivered and wheelsets complete, we are close to being able to trial fit the driving wheels.
