Nobelius Packing Shed
Nobelius Packing Shed

We invite you on a dining experience that mixes local fresh food with the striking beauty of the Dandenong Ranges at one of Puffing Billy’s finest hidden gems – the historic Nobelius Packing Shed.

Sit back, relax, and bask in the company of loved ones with a ride on board Australia’s oldest preserved steam railway and a delicious two-course lunch at station stop Nobelius Siding.

Famed for being the central transportation point for the Nobelius Nursery in 1900 – later becoming the largest exporter of fruit and ornamental trees in the Southern Hemisphere – the Nobelius Packing Shed is a heritage listed remnant of horticultural history and the perfect setting for an afternoon bite.

Journey and Lunch

Enjoy a 55-minute steam train journey that departs from Belgrave and immerse yourself in the sounds of the steam billowing out of the locomotive chimney, the evocative train whistle, and the majestic colours and landscapes that surround you.

Before long, our friendly train conductors will assist you in disembarking at Nobelius Siding. It’s there that the rustic and intimate Nobelius Packing Shed awaits with your delicious locally sourced two-course lunch, accompanied by a selection of wines and tea and coffee.

Explore Nobelius Heritage Park

Following lunch, visitors can explore the Nobelius Heritage Park – a four-and-a-half-hectare heritage site that was once part of the world-famous Nobelius Nursery started in 1886 by Swedish immigrant Carl Axel Nobelius.

Restore that balance in the great outdoors as you stroll along the nature-lined paths and meandering streams through the cool tree fern gullies.

The heritage park is also home to the Emerald Museum, displaying memorabilia, photographs and documents dating from early aboriginal occupation to the present day. For opening hours, please visit Emerald Museum's website.
