travel lakeside - gembrook return
As most passengers who start their journey at Belgrave will disembark at Lakeside, there are often seats available on the Lakeside to Gembrook section of the railway.
This journey is similiar in length and duration to that from Belgrave to Lakeside return, and the fare is the same.
Passengers can enjoy a visit to Emerald Lake Park either before or after their Puffing Billy journey. This park offers BBQ facilities and picnic tables, playground facilities, a wading pool and paddle boats for hire, and is the perfect spot for visitors with kids!
Please note that there is a fee for parking in Emerald Lake Park. There is a Council operated ticket machine - $6 flat fee for the day.
To cater for the busy Summer holiday season, diesel trains will be operating between Lakeside and Gembrook from 26 December 2016 to 8 January 2017.
As many of the food outlets in Gembrook will take a well-deserved break over Christmas, it can be a good idea to bring a picnic if travelling there. You can also purchase lunch at Lakeside station, either to eat before travelling or to bring along to Gembrook.
Did you know that Puffing Billy crosses three historic timber bridges between Lakeside and Gembrook?
Underway, the Railway skirts the northern boundary of the un-spoilt Wright State Forest, with large stands of Stringy Bark and other eucalypt trees.
As the train climbs towards Gembrook, the lineside bush gives way to extensive views of rolling cultivated farmlands, where potatoes are still grown, and distant mountain ranges.
