Race Day Road Closures

On Sunday April 30, 2017 traffic management safety controls including road closures will occur on roads associated with the Great Train Race. 
This will occur between 7am and 1pm and includes the race route and surrounding roads.

Areas most effected are between Belgrave and Emerald Lake Park, Emerald. Motorists are required to obey directions from Police and Traffic Controllers and be aware of runners on the roads.

The Puffing Billy Preservation Society apologises for any inconvenience caused to residents and motorists during this period.

Diversion Maps

The following tips and diversion maps are a guide and aim to benefit drivers in the local area throughout the road closures:

Clematis to Emerald Diversion Map (coming soon)

Traffic travelling to Belgrave from Cockatoo should detour at Emerald-Monbulk Rd and travel via Monbulk.

 

5 Main Areas Effected

Below are the diversion instructions concerning five (5) designated areas, along with estimated times when major roads will be closed.

Please Note: These are approximate times only - pending the pace of the runners.

 

1. Belgrave to Selby

A high volume of traffic within the Belgrave area from 7:30am - 9.30am.
Parking will be extremely limited at Belgrave from 7:30am - 1pm.
9:15am - 10:00am - Belgrave-Gembrook Rd closed between Belgrave and Selby.

 

2. Selby to Menzies Creek

9:30am - 10:30am - Selby-Aura Rd closed.

 

3. Menzies Creek to Clematis

9:45am -10:30am - Menzies Rd closed.

9:45am -10:15am - Belgrave-Gembrook Rd closed from Menzies Rd intersection to Wellington Rd intersection.

 

4. Clematis to Emerald

9:45am – 11:00am - Belgrave-Gembrook Rd closed to all traffic between Wellington Rd and Emerald Main Rd rail crossing.

Major delays up to sixty (60) minutes are expected within this area.

 

5. Emerald to Emerald Lake Rd

Major delays up to sixty (60) minutes are expected within this area.

10:00am – 11:00am - Emerald Main Rd Rail Crossing closed.
10:00am – 11:15am - Puffing Billy Place and Heroes Ave closed.
10:00am – 11:15am - Emerald-Beaconsfield Rd Rail Crossing closed.
10:00am – 11:15am - Crichton Rd closed.
7:00am – 1:00pm - Emerald Lake Rd closed. (Resident/Carpark pass holders excluded)

10:00am – 11:15am - Traffic travelling to Emerald from Beaconsfield should detour at Paternoster Rd and travel via Cockatoo.

Note: no vehicles will be permitted into Emerald Lake Park after 9:30am – 1:00pm with or without a pass.
