Can I transfer my entry to someone else?
As per point 14 in the 2017 Entry Terms and conditions, under no circumstance are you permitted to pass your entry onto someone else.
Entry fees and race bibs are non-transferable and that no other person is permitted to participate in the Event in place.
We cannot process name changes, therefore if you cannot compete in the event, you must withdraw.

Are there cancellation fees if I withdraw?
Successful refund requests are subject to a $30.00 administration charge.
Refunds will be credited to the original credit card used during online entry and that it may take a number of days for funds to clear. Please note the conditions of a successful refund - outlined in point 15 of the Entry Terms and Conditions
Refunds will only be issued if:
- There is a medical condition preventing the runner from competing;
- The request for a refund is made in writing to email@example.com before 5pm Monday April 24, 2017; and
- The request is accompanied with a medical certificate.
How do I update personal information on my registration?
Runners are welcome to update their details online at any point using their Person ID (found on your email or confirmation letters).
Note: This is where runners can also purchase additional items after initial registration process. eg: singlets or available parking passes or Race Train tickets.
Is pre-qualifying time proof required?
No, from Monday 20 March 2017, PDF or JPEG data is no longer required to be submitted at time of registration.
To assist with seeding everyone fairly, a current 10km time is required to be entered.
Qualification standard remains at 10km time must be under 75minutes. This can be based on a flat course or trail run.
Why is my confirmation letter appearing blank?
Apple users please note: If you wish to read the confirmation letter on your iPhone or iPad you may need to download the free Adobe Acrobat Reader from the App Store. Apple's built-in PDF reader has a bug which may render the attached confirmation letter unreadable. The attachment should open without problem on computers, laptops and Android mobile devices.
How many people can I have on a team?
4 individual runners can run and compete as a team against teams and the Race Trains. Team prizes are available for the fastest 4 runners and the lucky random team prize.
How do I check up on the names of my team members?
Please contact the Race Team directly via firstname.lastname@example.org - we aim to have this function available online in the future.
I've registered already, how can I purchase a singlet?
Singlets are available to purchase over the phone to our Race Team on 03 9757 0775, alternatively email email@example.com and we shall call you back.
Singlets purchased before 10 April, will be posted out with your Race Pack.
When will the Race Pack be sent?
If you registered by 2pm, Sunday 9th April 2017, your Race Pack will be posted to the address provided on your registration.
If your postal address changed between registering and the mail out date - please ensure your contact the Race Office
Registrations from 20th - 28th April 2017 will require collection of Race Bibs on Race Day - Sunday 30th April.
Available from 7:30am at Race Info, CFA building, Bayview Road, Belgrave.
What is in my Race Pack?
Your Race Pack will include:
- Race information sheet
- Race bib with attached timing chip
- Safety pins
- Pre- purchased train tickets, Finish Line car park pass and/or singlets.
My Race Pack hasn’t arrived by 26th April 2017.
- Ensure your postal address is correct.
- Race Packs may have been delayed in the Easter post.
- Contact the Race Office to follow up.
- Note: replacement bibs are available from the Info Area at the Start Line, from 7:30am Race Day.
When do I find out my bib number / seeded group?
Upon receipt of the Race Pack, which should contain the Race Bib, you will note the seeded group colour and number.
Further email correspondence will reference your seeded group.
What are the prize categories for the Great Train Race?
Presentations will be made following the Race at Emerald Lake Park for the following categories:
- 1st, 2nd 3rd Female
- 1st, 2nd, 3rd Male
- 1st U/18 Female and Male
- 1st Veteran Female and Male
Don't forget to pop by the random prize tent to see if you have a lucky bib number! There are some great prizes up for grabs.
When can I receive my result?
We are working on providing individual race results earlier for the 2017 participants. More details will be available closer to Race Day.
What is the race course distance?
13.5km - refer to the elevation map for further information.
"The 13.5km distance and rolling hills are a wonderful challenge. The last 3-4km winding through Emerald Lake Park, downhill on a soft trail, is fast and scenic, where you will be cheered by spectators lining the path up to the station and finish line."

What roads will be closed during the race?
In advance Puffing Billy Preservation Society apologies for the delays caused by road closures associated to the Great Train Race. Further information is available here.
Are there toilets along the route?
Yes, they're available at Menzies Creek Station, and Emerald Station, along with the Start and Finish line.
Where are drink stations?
Race Start: Belgrave CFA Station – Bayview Road, Belgrave
4km: Outside 12 Selby Aura Road – 12 Selby-Aura Road, Selby
7km: Menzies Creek CFA Station – Menzies Creek
10.2km: Emerald Railyard – Puffing Billy Station, Emerald
13.5km - Race Finish: Emerald Lake Park - Emerald Lake Road, Emerald
How do I get back to the Start Line?
Your choice of transport back to Belgrave is included in the runner registration fee.
1. Puffing Billy
Whilst spectators are required to have pre-purchased a Race Day Puffing Billy train ticket, Runners bibs are the Race Train tickets for competitors.
Trains return from Lakeside (Emerald Lake Park) at the following times:
11:00am | 11:20am | 11:50am | 1:10pm | 3:30pm
Note: the last train arrives back to Belgrave at 4:20pm
Limited spaces are available; carriages fill on a first come first served basis.
2. Charter Bus
Departing Emerald Lake Park (see volunteers on the day or the map below) a fleet of charted buses will take runners back to Belgrave. Buses are available from 11:00am – 12noon (approximately).
Where is the best place to spectate?
- West side of Belgrave-Gembrook Rd from 8:45am to 9.45am (Start Line)
- Trestle Bridge carpark (1.5km)
- Menzies Creek Station (6km)
- Emerald Railyard (drinks stand) – this is the best one as there is ample parking available (10km)
- Emerald Lake Park (ELP) along the final 1km of the route and the finish line (12.5km-13.5km).
- ELP car park is open to pass holders only. Additional parking is available next to Emerald Library.
- Walking into ELP via Princess Ave is an option for the final 1-2km viewing spots.
